Feather hair extensions add pizazz to all hair types and lengths. This cute and funky look is fun, stylish, and easy. Get the benefits of highlights, lowlights, or colorful streaks without any chemicals or commitment. Feathered looks can use long, small, big, or short feathers depending on your hair length and personal style. Choose from a single long strand that runs the length of your hair to incorporating colorful puffs into braids or draw attention to your eyes with a cluster of brow height wisps.

One of the hottest and easiest feathers for hair are long, thin striped rooster feathers. Also known as grizzly feathers (no feathers from buffalo wings?), these real feathers are lightweight, durable, and can last between one and three months. Rooster feathers are often dyed, most often red, yellow, green, blue, orange, or pink. For a subtle yet surprising look for lighter hair shades, try the natural tans and cream colors. Rooster feathers can also be washed, dried, and styled like normal hair. Use blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons, even though your bedhead will be totally fabulous.

Adding feather hair extensions in hair is easy to do at home. A no-commitment way to feather yourself is to combine the feathers into a ponytail or braid. If you’re ready to attach them, the easiest and fastest method is to use micro links. This also allows you to reuse the feathers and change the placement of the extension. There are lots of how-to tutorials and videos available.

One last note, the feathered hair extension craze has been hard for roosters to keep up with. Feathers are more often like fur than wool so consider looking for cruelty free options that use naturally molted feathers. A few sources are The Friendly Feather Shop, Peacock Hill Cruelty Free Feathers, and Namaste Creations.

Enjoy your having fun with feathers in your hair and we’d love to see your look.
